Random Gadgenista Thoughts on Gaming!
I spent the whole weekend last week playing Wii with my friends.
And auuggh, until now I still feel the repercussion!
My arms feel soooo painful! Hahaha.
Too much Wii!
Anyhoo, it still amazes me how consoles of today have evolved. PSPs, DS Lites are today’s Gameboys and GameGears and they have come a long, long way from what they were before.
Remember the Nintendo Family Computers? They are soooo antiques now! Hahaha.
Anyway, while having Wii nights, my friends and were talking about Wii and gaming and here are some random thoughts!
1. Wii will have attachments for the legs in the near-future! Next thing you know, games will need you to really walk to get around in-game.
2. Gaming console controllers will eventually have a feature that enables their controllers to become lighter or heavier. Hello gym games! You can now have your own gym at home!
3. “I wonder if Wii will ever have adult games.” - Woohoo. I can just imagine what kind of Wii movements you will be doing with these type of games. Hahahaha.
Got any random thoughts or predictions to share? :) Comment!

Haha, that adult game joke has been bandied about ever since Wii’s inception. I mean, even the name lends itself to a whole slew of crude jokes. While not exactly the “adult” you had in mind, there is a game coming out for Wii that has an adult theme called manhunt 2. It’s basically “hostel” or “saw” turned into a video game, and one wonders how that’s fly on the family friendly wii.

@Ryan, I haven’t seen both movies because they’re too gory! Bllleeeech heheheh :) But that’s true… Wii’s supposed to be family-oriented so it’s going to be a bit weird so see R18 games haha!

I think big game-houses will reasses and re-focus the games they churn out from providing gamers with eyepopping and nosebleed graphics to kickass and immersive gameplay experiences. One of the winning points of the Wii is just that, IMO, immersive gameplay; earlier attempts at getting gamers into the game succeeded albeit some hardware drawbacks (the PlayStation’s vibrating controller, shock-seats, steering wheel setups, etc.) the Wii just brings the whole concept of “immersive” onto a whole new level (I think my sweat session with Artie playing football last week was evidence of that).
Now, we also see new iterations of old game franchises coming out with a major focus on gameplay, Starcraft 2 for example, by the looks of the gameplay videos and screenshots I’ve seen, seems to have a lot of gameplay improvements under its hood — the graphics on the other hand didn’t seem to have received significant tune-ups compared to RTS games that are available on the shelves right now.
So yeah, it’s going to be a really fun year for gaming; funny, I remember subscribing to a gaming-related magazine a few years back, and they had this section on designing your “dream” game, something like what Inquest had before for designing your “dream magic card”. Anyway, it’s funny that the games that sell a lot right now (discounting of course fanboy franchises such as Mario, etc.) are games that feature mundane daily tasks (Cooking Mama, Trauma Center, etc.) to out of this world concepts (Carrot juice bunnies anyone?).
My 4 cents. :)
