Asus EEE PC vs Mac Book Air!

Juned of A Feed Is Born started the Asus EEE PC vs Mac Book Air thread in our b5media google groups.
Juan of The After Mac says comparing the Asus EEE PC and the Mac Book Air is an unfair comparison.
“You’re comparing the eee pc that’s about $400 compared to the MacBook Air that’s $1800. Spec’s wise it’s 800Mhz Intel Celeron vs. 1.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB HD vs. 80GB HD, 512MB RAM vs. 2GB RAM. etc” - Juan of The After Mac
Clair of New Linux User would choose the Asus EEE PC simply because it suits her need of making her more mobile in terms connecting online.
Jayvee of CellPhone9 doesn’t see the need of getting a MacBook Air since he got a black MacBook several months ago and he firmly believes in “waiting the first iteration out”.
“It’s like I’d be buying something that’s LESS POWERFUL than what I already have.” Jayvee of Cellphone9
I personally think the Mac Book Air is a “glorified” Asus EEE PC and it’s a “to-be-seen-with” gadget you bring to Starbucks or to whatever coffee shop you hang out at. But if you have the money, why not?
What about you?

Not getting it. Too expensive for something that you can’t even replace the batteries of.
Folks with money are better off with an MBP or MB.

Okay, I put my foot in my mouth first before reading. Batteries are user-replaceable, but you gotta screw around first. Hopefully warranty is not voided when you replace the battery yourself.
Still not getting it.

I haven’t tried using a MacBook but then I bought an Asus EEEpc just for the simple reason of being “cute”. I never thought I would enjoy its features… although everybody else is right, an Asus EEEpc is just meant for surfing, playing etc. Not much for storing files or whatsoever. But then you can always have an external hdd, flash drive and memory card where you can store your files. Do not buy an eeepc if you are planning to have this as your primary pc. This is only meant to be your second pc while you’re on the go. Nevertheless, I can recommend this to techie fashionistas out there. It’s a cute and affordable thingy!

I’ll wait for the bugs to work out, plus I just got my MacBook less than a year ago and I’m going to use this computer for quite awhile. It’s absolutely fantastic. But *if* money was no object, sure, I’d buy a MBA; along with a ton of other gadgets. ;)
